Other amazing shape !

History of the board:

The SUP outrigger is no more than a 16 foot hollow wooden ply "toothpick" surfboard, with a wood and ply float attached. We built the board firstly on its own to use mainly as a prone long distance paddle board. The underside of the nose is much thicker than a regular toothpick. We tried to shape it more like the nose of a ski, to allow the nose to stay above water in choppy conditions. This made it difficult to surf, but its main priority was for paddling. You couldn't keep up with more modern paddleboards but it was a fast board.

I discovered stand up paddling accidentally while cruising the rivers and estuaries around the Sunshine Coast. I would paddle my toothpicks at pace then hop to my feet and drift with the tide through mangroves and watch the marine life below. It was then I thought about grabbing a paddle. All I had was a short canoe single oar which was a killer on my back. Eventually my mind drifted to ocean stand up paddling. I was completely unaware of the sup movement taking place in Hawaii, so I began working on building the float for one of my toothpicks because they were too tippy on the ocean on their own. I tried to replicate the design of an outrigger as close as I could. During the construction I began spotting a couple of photo's of Laird stand up paddling on surfboards, and my SUP awareness began.

On discovering the kinds of boards that were being used, it was soon obvious to me that the outrigger that was nearing completion, was irrelevant. It's heavy and gets thrown around a lot in the swell. It just wouldn't compete against a sup board. However I couldn't stop there. The outrigger was finished with some flash artwork done on the float by a friend of mine. I've only paddled her a handful of times but I guess she is definitely a one of a kind.

note: " I am looking for a tandem surfing partner. Where a man holds a woman, performing various poses, over his head while riding a wave. She will need to be very petite with some surfing experience. Tandem surfing is a unique and beautifull artform with potential to surf in contest's such as the Noosa surfing festival."
